Spent

Title: Spent
Writer: Joe Matt
Art Work: Joe Matt
Publisher: Drawn and Quarterly
The story in Spent is very intimate and personal. I felt a strong connection when I read it because I was going through a loneliness phase in my life. In my opinion loneliness is a symptom of depression and one must lift their own spirits up in order to overcome it. If you don’t change you’re bound to end up like the main character Joe, wasting your years away in melancholy. I’m usually drawn towards books that deal with desolation and misery because I’m always looking for a clear solution out of depression. I guess you can call me an optimist for that because even in the worst situations I believe there’s always a way out.

Unfortunately I didn’t get the happy ending I wanted from Spent. This isn’t to say it was a bad book, rather it’s a book to observe from a distance and hopefully realize that you are the only person who can make yourself happy. It’s as if you’re looking at Joe’s mistakes in life, and telling yourself you’re better than that; and that the bad stuff shouldn’t weigh you down. The main problem with Joe is that he’s always been lonely and believes that his one chance at love has passed him, and as such is destined to a life of solitude with his only companion being VHS porn.

Joe deals with his depression using a technique I describe as quarantine. This is where an individual that is hurt would rather stay in isolation, than face a world that will make them view themselves as losers. While I don’t believe one must live their life according to how the world judges them, I also believe one shouldn’t disregard it and punish themselves into isolation. The point being not to allow one traumatic event in life to cripple ourselves into stagnation. It’s been said numerous times over and over again, life is beautiful and things do change. While it’s not always going to be perfect, it also isn’t always going to be sad, so enjoy life because beauty is what you make it.

Candid Pictures of Hot Women

There’s nothing hotter for me than a woman that is dressed sexy on the street that walks past you when you’re not expecting it. Unlike the famous celebrity chicks that are in movies and magazines (that I most likely will never have a chance to talk to), these hot babes are within reach to get hit on. That’s why my philosophy has always been about caring for what’s within reach, or rather what you don’t have to work hard to get. So today I wanted to display some quality grade A pictures of T&A that was found on the streets. Sure most likely these women will reject a couch potato like you or they might have a bad-ass boyfriend that will kick your ass, but in the end what’s most important is that after being shut-down you’ll always have someone to run to that will never reject you; internet porn.

Gaming

I’m not a gamer. Well, I’m not a gamer by today’s modern definition. I assume that today’s hard core gamer must spend hours playing video games every day. They like to play on-line, love first person shooters or fighters, have a vast gaming library, wait till mid-night to buy a game, and drink sleep and eat video games. I on the other hand like playing once in a while, will get bored after a few hours, and prefer simplicity over complexity. That’s how it used to be in the good ol’ days of the Nintendo NES. Games were fun, easy, and didn’t take very long to beat. That’s why I believe the Nintendo Wii was so successful; it carried forward these “keeping it simple” rules to a modern gaming generation. Today Nintendo announced that it will release a new gaming system in 2012 (unless the world ends). This news came out of nowhere this week, although the rumours did start earlier in the month. To assume that Nintendo would stop working on the Wii, a system that has made them very rich and popular, seemed absurd. But today they confirmed these rumours. My thoughts are that this is a very smart move by Nintendo. This gives them an advantage of being first to release the newest next generation system (and gain all the press attention). It also forces the competition to play catch-up and have to speed their next gen as well, and maybe even come unprepared on someone else’s terms. I think that was a reason why the Sony Playstation 3 did so terrible in sales; they were a year behind the Xbox 360. The expensive retail price was also another reason why many people passed on the PS3; and opted for the much more affordable Wii. Nintendo also announced that they will reveal a playable version of their next gaming console at this year’s E3 (Los Angeles from June 7 to 9). While there are many things I hope to see from it (HD and maybe 3D), I also hope Nintendo sticks to their winning formula of making fun games that are easy to play and are timeless.

The List: Top favourite Christmas Movies

Well what can I say it’s December and unlike most adults I actually really love Christmas time. Sure the malls are packed, its cold outside, and having to spend money on presents for others instead of yourself really stinks. But luckily there are ways to help you get through the season without having to stab someone in the gall bladder. Besides the snow, what I really love the most about this time of year is all the comfort food you can enjoy without having to measure your waistline because it’ll be covered up by sweaters. Nothing beats a snowy night of junk food gluttony that’s accompanied by a good ol’ Christmas movie. So I’ve decided to name my favourite get-you-in-the-mood couch potato Christmas movies. Sure most of these films will have suffering and misfortune in them but like I always say, there’s nothing like other peoples miseries to make you feel good about yourself.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: This one stars Chevy Chase and Dennis Quaid’s funny older brother Randy Quaid. Not only is it funny, but it also has a sexy model working at a mall. Bonus points for being made in Chicago.
A Christmas Story: I just love this movie because a ginger kid gets his ass kicked.
The Ref: An awesome Denis Leary movie before he became a commercial sell-out.
Friday After Next: Worth it just to look at the hot chick working at the lingerie store. Bonus Terry Crews is in it.
Bad Santa: 2 words; Fat kid (LOL).
Scrooged: Such a great film, with Bill Murray at his best. Bonus points for Santa fighting off terrorists.
Die Hard 2: Though I loved the 1st Die Hard, number 2 was my favourite because I love airports. Bonus points for Bruce Willis having hair.

The List: Top favourite things

Another new category I have wanted to add to my blog has been a list of my favourite things. This list can be made up of music, foods, TV shows, movies, sports stuff, or just anything in general. It was inspired by the movie High Fidelity, where a bunch of dudes spend the whole day at work making up a list of their favourite things. I can relate to this movie because I’ve spent (wasted) numerous hours with my friends at work just making up lists as well. But I now want to include this category in my blog to be able to talk about the things that I love. Although I do appreciate people that can post a video or blog about a particular movie or song, I much rather just say a couple of words and be happy. The best part is that I don’t have to take it seriously, it’s just something I want to do just to have fun. Hopefully the people that will read it will either agree/disagree with it and post a comment, or I will inspire them to something new they have never heard about. I’m also hoping that by adding a ‘top favourite list’ will allow me the chance to be able to write more in my blog, and improve my writing skills (since I have difficulty expressing my opinions).

“I agreed that what really matters is what you like, not what you are like... Books, records, films - these things matter. Call me shallow but it's the ‘Fing’ truth, and by this measure I was having one of the best dates of my life”

Redhead Wednesdays

I wanted to start a new feature on my blog called ‘Redhead Wednesdays’. When it comes to women, I love all sorts and never limit myself to just one kind. I don’t discriminate against age, race, weight or background. As long as their personality is normal, and I find them attractive I am good to go. However there is one type of woman that I can’t help but be more smitten by; the redhead. Their bright red hair is just so unusual today that I find it special when I see a female Ginger. I also like how most of them have freckles; it’s just very sexy on them. Freckles on women are a turn on, but to see them on an attractive redhead is even better. So with this new blog category I hope to bring in pictures of redheads that I find beautiful and be able to learn who they are by writing a little bit about them. So if you’re also a fan of these women, then check my blog out from time to time, and also add comments if you think there is a Ginger I should know about. For now I’ll stick to some random pictures for this first blog post.

The Simpsons Tattoos

One of my favorite shows of all time has always been the Simpsons. I still remember as a child waiting patiently all week until Thursday night when Fox would air new episodes and I would fire up my VCR. Over the years the show did start to lose its magic as the comedy became dry and very banal. But regardless my love for the show has kept me a faithful viewer throughout the years, and now decades. Of course some people show their love by taking it to the next level, and actually getting Simpsons tattoos. Here are some cool one’s I found on-line.

Now I would never consider having a Simpsons tattoo, but if I had to choose one I think I would definitely get one of Evil Homer.
