DEMI LOVATO OPENS UP ABOUT "SKYSCRAPER"

Recording new single“Skyscraper” made Demi Lovato realize it was time to get help for ongoing depression and eating disorder issues – because the lyrics detailed her personal problems.

The singer/actress insists only her closest friends and family members knew of her struggles and she was even convincing them that all was well – and then she hit the studio to record what is now her comeback single.

In a candid radio interview with Los Angeles DJ Ryan Seacrest, which aired on Tuesday, Lovato said, "I heard the song before anything had happened and I was just gravitated towards it. I was like, ‘I have to record this… I’m obsessed with it.’

“I went into the studio to record it… and I sat there… and I just cried my eyes out. I was, like, doubled over with emotion. It was crazy… and we finished the song and I went through everything and I tried to re-record it but it didn’t have the same emotion.”

She added, “Hopefully, what this song does for my fans… it tells them it’s gonna be OK. Now I have a clearer view, a better perspective.”

Demi’s song is currently the #1 song on iTunes and many of her famous pals including Kim Kardashian, Pete Wentz, and Kelly Clarkson have been tweeting about her song. Congrats Demi! Don’t forget to see the premiere of the music video on E! News tonight at 8pm EST.

Selena Gomez "So Proud" Of Demi Lovato

Selena Gomez is supporting her childhood BFF Demi Lovato and her new single.

Demi just premiered her brand new song, the emotional ballad Skyscraper - which the actress admits had her crying in the studio as she recorded it.

Now Selena has told fans how she's proud of her friend.

"SO, SO proud of @ddlovato," Sel Tweeted, "#skyscraper Incredible, beautiful and so inspiring..," she wrote.

Although it looked like the pair were no longer friends, last month Demi confirmed Selena supported her during her time in a treatment center last year.

When a fan recently tweeted her "@ddlovato please tell me Selena Gomez was always there," Lovato replied: "@OhMyDelenaFacts always."

Demi Lovato Calls 'Skyscraper' Her 'Cry For Help'

Demi Lovato is feeling better these days. Her ups and downs are evident in her latest single, "Skyscraper," which she said helped her confront her issues before she landed in treatment late last fall.

She recorded two versions — one last year during her darker days and one after she left treatment — but, she told E! News, "It just didn't feel the same, so we kept the original one. For me it was ... so symbolic, it being the song I recorded before treatment and yet it was providing a message. It's so crazy the way things played out, that it ended up being my symbol and it represented what I'm trying to spread the word about: getting help and rising above any issues that [I and] my fans are dealing with."

As emotionally draining as it was to record the track, she said it also hurt her physically to be in the studio working on it. "I was doubled over, just in pain. I remember thinking, 'This is kind of my cry for help' back then, because I hadn't spoken to anyone about these issues," she said in the interview with Ryan Seacrest. "And I hadn't gotten the help that I needed."

Those emotions are also touched on in the video, which will be released this week. "That video was an emotional release for me, like therapy. ... I kept crying, I was so emotionally invested. ... That's when I realized, that's what music videos are all about.

"There were so many things that represented my addictions and eating disorders and self-harm," she added about the video. "When I'm unraveling this black fabric ... it was the toxicity that took over my mind for so long, that oozed out of every pore that I had because I was suffering inside. ... I'm taking it off and walking on broken glass and powering through it."

Lovato is very open about the fact that, while she isn't hurting herself anymore, she still isn't 100 percent. "I'm not going to be perfect, but ... if I can make it through the day, that's all that matters," she said. "It's a daily journey, and it's definitely going to be a struggle that I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life."

Demi Lovato Cutting and Rebuilding With "Skyscraper" 2011

Demi Lovato may have been knocked down, but over the past year, she built herself right back up.

"I wasn't going to continue to be alive if I continued to treat my body the way I was," the 18-year-old said in an exclusive sit-down with E! News' Ryan Seacrest, discussing her decision to seek treatment last October for issues that included anorexia, bulimia and a tendency to self-mutilate by cutting.

"It's a daily journey and it's definitely going to be a struggle that I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life," she admitted. "Sometimes I think, ‘Why couldn't I have been normal?' "

Luckily for her fans, however, Lovato isn't "normal." She's an on-the-rise star with a hit single and a brand-new music video (enjoying its world premiere today on E! News and E! Online) that literally mean the world to her.

"I'm not going to be perfect, but...if I can make it through the day, that's all that matters," the former Sonny With a Chance star said confidently.

Of her latest single "Skyscraper," in which she sings about being broken but coming back stronger than ever, Lovato revealed that she first recorded the song a year ago when her voice was weaker because she was "ruining it by damaging it after every meal," and then rerecorded it after undergoing treatment.

But guess which version she went with!

The "Skyscraper" video features Lovato standing in the desert, dressed all in white, her makeup subtle and her feet mostly bare. The teen said that she wanted it to have an emotionally raw feel.

2011-WHAT DOES NICK JONAS THINK OF DEMI LOVATO'S SKYSCRAPER?

DON'T GET TOO ENTHUSIASTIC THERE NICK JONAS...

Nick Jonas was at the 7th annual Grammy Camp joining Greyson Chance on the master panel for high school kids across the country. He also gave an interview discussing his involvement in the Grammy Camp, Joe Jonas's solo career and what he thinks of Demi Lovato's hugely emotional single Skyscraper.

Demi Lovato and The Jonas Brothers grew up together with Camp Rock and she used to describe them as her best friends. In particular, of course, Joe Jonas who she famously dated for a while. Many questioned whether her emotional breakdown leading to rehab had something to do with her bad breakup from Joe.

Nick, however, was keen to show that he liked the single and is still in touch with Demi.

When asked if he'd heard Demi's Skyscraper Nick said,

"I have. It's a great song, she played it for me a while ago, it's great."

The interview also asked if he's been giving tips to his brother Joe as Joe's just launched his solo career and Nick has worked on his own music in the past.

Nick replied, "The project that I did was more a side project and he's really doing a solo thing, when I did mine it provided for me to go and be able to do that for a little while.. but he really is doing a solo thing."

Nick Jonas: Demi Lovato's Song is 'Great'

Nick Jonas was on hand earlier this week at the 2011 Grammy Camp to convey his wisdom about music making to a crowd of passionate students from around the country.

The 18-year-old musician caught up with THR later in the afternoon and shared about the experience, “The message that I hope to bring them is just that if you’re passionate about this and you really do want to make a career out of it, a life out of music, it’s the best thing to be a part of.”

“I get to wake up every day and create music. And even when it’s a tough moment as far as career ups and downs, it’s always something you’re passionate about and it’s a beautiful way to spend your life,” Nick continued.

Also asked about former costar and tour mate Demi Lovato’s new track, Nick dished, “It’s a great song. She played it for me a while ago. It’s great.”

Demi Lovato’s new single “Skyscraper” and according to our friends at JSYK, Demi is sharing the credit.

She tweeted the other day, “Also HUGE thanks to @kerlimusic for writing on #SKYSCRAPER!!!” Such a talented woman!!! Thank you!!"
