The Lovin' Linkful

Get hooked on this site's daily dose of strange facts and goofy illustrations. (Learn Something Every Day)

This link was sent to me by one of my good friends Emilie - if you love the designs of Jonathan Adler and the Eccentric Glamour of Simon Doonan, then channel your inner Peeping Tom here. (The Coveteur)

For every book that doesn't allow you to insert your personality into the Mary Sue-esque 'leading lady' (hey what up Twilight), here's a guide to seducing your favorite literary characters. (The Frisky)

If the summer sunshine ain't doin' the trick, here's a list of 45 ways to feel happier. Forget apples - doing one of these tips a day is sure to keep the doctor (and any case of the blues or the mean reds) away. (Million Looks)

I've been entering every variation of my name in order to get something to rival Donald Glover's Childish Gambino. (WuName Generator)

I find Lauren 'LC' Conrad's new beauty site to be full of helpful tips and tutorials - especially videos on how to get Conrad's signature beachy waves and messy updos. (The Beauty Department)

Nicole Richie's summer style tips. Cute babies and floaty tunics not included. (People StyleWatch)

I have a strange fascination with retro Playboy Bunnies, as in: I kinda want to be one. (Vanity Fair)

Fashion advice from my favorite fictional heroine, the perpetual-six-year-old Eloise. (The Gloss)

This explains a lot: the Talent Slut Matrix. (HowAboutWe)

"25 Everyday Things You Never Knew Had Names," including the scientific name for man-boobs (gynecomastia). (Buzzfeed)

Artist Meghan Boody cites her Tribeca apartment as being Alice in Wonderland meets Being John Malkovich, complete with hidden staircases leading to secret tearooms and a silicone sculpture of a girl trapped inside her glass coffee table. Yeah, totally so is my dorm room. (NYMag)

Courtesy of the Jane Austen Society of Australia, a list of slang from the movie Clueless - thank you, Australia. (JASA)

A list of hipster baby names. Not that any real hipsters would look at a baby name website so grotesquely mainstream. (nameberry)

Apparently, Wuthering Heights was kinda controversial when it was released in 1847. Here's one of the nicer reviews: "How a human being could have attempted such a book as the present without committing suicide before he had finished a dozen chapters, is a mystery. It is a compound of vulgar depravity and unnatural horrors." Funny, I don't remember any critics wondering why Stephanie Meyer didn't kill herself before Edward gave it up to Bella. (The Telegraph)

One of my life mottos (courtesy of Tracy Jordan) is "dress everyday like you're gonna get murdered in those clothes." Obviously this list of "25 Reasons Why You Should Dress Up Every Day" is going to have to do some edits to put that gem in there. (College Fashion)

So how much is too much to spend on a pair of silk trousers with large exotic birds screened on them? (All Saints)

How to dress like you're starring in a John Hughes film. Perfect, considering I've wanted to be Molly Ringwald in The Breakfast Club since I was a preteen. I'm always showing up places with sushi while wearing riding boots and diamond studs, always asking people if they wanna see me put on lipstick without using my hands. No one gets it. (Time Out New York)

The Lovin' Linkful

I'm kickin' off April with another dose of the Lovin' Linkful. Hope you enjoy!

"Seeing pink elephants" is perhaps my new favorite expression. Now I just need to have a drunken hallucination in order to use it ... (Wikipedia)

Apparently macaroni and cheese is the miracle worker of comfort foods, helping to ease feelings of loneliness and depression. And here I was feeling guilty about my late night Easy Mac binges. Personally, I'll take mental health over physical health any day (until swimsuit season arrives). (Slashfood)

And after I'm done with my mac and cheese, I can read up on "The Lazy Girl's Guide to Getting a Bikini Body." (The Frisky)

Check out this exhibit "Pulp Fashion: The Art of Isabelle de Borchgrave," recommended to me by the fab blogger Angel Corpus Christi, which has the artist recreating incredible, luxurious costumes from key moments in history. The Legion of Honor website perhaps says it best with, "she forms trompe l'oeil masterpieces of elaborate dresses inspired by rich depictions in early European painting or by iconic costumes in museum collections around the world." Le sigh. (Legion of Honor)

I've been doing a tremendous about of research and analysis of the film Performance for a FMST paper that I'm writing. I'm having a lot of fun reading this compilation of quotes from everyone in the production, especially Mick saying "I didn't want to smoke real joints in the bath, because I couldn't remember my lines. But I did anyway." (Neon)

Forty ways to become an unforgettable woman. Take note, ladies. Also, learn how to give "an irresistible massage." (Ezine Articles)

In what has to be the most ingenious marketing strategy in the history of all time, DirecTV has created a website to advertise the fake Sokoblovsky Farms, "Russian's finest purveyors" of the adorable lap giraffes from their Opulence, I Has It commercial. I don't know if this will help them sell their TV program, but I know I sure as hell want one of those lil giraffes! (Petite Lap Giraffe)

"How To Make Small Talk And Not Be Socially Inept At Parties Where You Know No One." I swear, it's like this article was written specifically for me. (The Gloss)

Okay, so I have a decade to read about two dozen books. Awesome. (Divine Caroline)

An interesting op/ed article that asks why we are so quick to judge Marilyn for her affairs and addictions, but we gloss over the troubles that Audrey had in her life. Very compelling - especially the Watusi.

The Lovin' Linkful

Here again are some links that have taken up a significant amount of my study time this week: a mix of boredom busters, Elizabeth Taylor tributes, and items I pray the shopping fairy will leave under my pillow.

Not for the faint of heart (or the tight of wallet), but having dinner several hundred feet in the air will certainly be a dining experience to remember. Even if the food sucks. (Dinner in the Sky)

Dear Sapling Press, Please send me copies of each of your charming, laugh-out-loud funny letterpress cards. Sincerely, Dolly Rocker Girl. (Etsy)

Ever wondered how to be like those elusive, PBR-drinking, skinny jean-wearing hipsters? Here's a how-to guide for becoming one. It's way ironic. Of course. (Stephemera)

What better way for a fan to honor the late Elizabeth Taylor than to recreate some of Liz's most legendary outfits? (The Gloss)

After ordering some clothes in her style, check out this list of "26 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Elizabeth Taylor." I knew 25 of them. (I never knew she had hypertrichosis as an infant). (Buzzfeed)

Drawing inspiration from everything from swans to 'Blonde Ambiton' era Madonna, shoe designer Kobi Levi brings art to a new level in fashion with his insane creations. (Kobi Levi)

As someone who has had terrible trouble falling asleep night after night for years, I'm intrigued by this article, "Eating Your Way to a Good Night's Sleep." (Psychology Today)

Are you bored? Are you in need of answers to questions both life-changing and ridiculously insignificant? Look no further. (Help I Need Help)

It's Friday night (Gotta get down on Friday!) - read these eight reasons to go out tonight to any of your lazypants friends. (Betty Confidential)

The name of this site pretty much says it all. (Selleck Waterfall Sandwich)

Similar to the book Other People's Love Letters, this online collection of personal inscriptions in books is touching and deeply heartfelt to read.
(The Book Inscriptions Project)

I still can't do it correctly. (How to Fold a Shirt)

The Lovin' Linkful

Karl Lagerfeld has been bit by the vampire bug for Harper's Bazaar. Also admits, "Apparently I am very scary. But if you get to know me, you see I am very nice. Happily, I don't look like I am." (Fashion etc)

Willow released a new song. Bitchin'. (Buzzfeed)

Ever wondered what Janis Joplin kept in her handbag? Take a look at the goods carried by the "One Night Stand Existentialista" (The Hairpin)

The creepiness / laziness of Facebook stalkers has reached new heights. (Breakup Notifier)

This makes me sad. Which makes me want to each chocolate. Which makes me sad. Which makes me want to eat more chocolate. (Health)

For those of you not in the know - or simply don't know what I'm talking about half of the time - I recommend you check out this definitive list of British mod cinema. (Modculture)

I have a fixation with leather backpacks. There is something so laid-back cool about a good broken-in bag on your back. This one definitely does the trick. (Dillards)

A list of fantastically random things admitted by this year's Oscar nominees - included, but not limited to: Christian Bale's favorite movie is Beverly Hills Ninja, Colin Firth is a drag queen at heart, Natalie Portman used to party with the Winklevii, and Amy Adams has said "Never in the butt." (NY Mag)

I was sent this link by my good friend, the Notorious New Yorker. It's a video for the song "Go Outside" by the Cults, featuring the crushable Dave Franco and a very Brigitte Bardot-looking Emma Roberts as an utterly New Wave couple, running around Paris. A great to spend three minutes. (Nylon Mag)

The Lovin' Linkful

Here is my second helping of the Lovin' Linkful - and unlike revenge, it's a dish best served hot! Again it's a random assortment of links that I love from all over the web - mostly style-related, but très random:

I wonder if Miley knows that dream catchers don't work if they're tattooed on your ribcage. (Daily Mail)

Style tips from one of the most awesome Brits alive. And my love affair with Bill Nighy continues.
(Guardian)

Hey America! Still bummed that there are two more years until the next presidential election? Well turn that frown upside down because there's a poll open that's just as important as deciding the leader of the free world: Should Barbie take Ken back? I vote no. (Barbie and Ken)

I love this Black Swan party game. As they put it, "white swans have technique but black swans have essential style. The white swan is the brain, the black swan is the crotch." They've put together a really solid list, but can you think of any WS/BS combos of your own? (Marianne is the white swan, and Anita is the black swan, perhaps?)
(This Recording)

Take a much-needed two minute time out with this awesome new site.
(Do Nothing For 2 Minutes)

This article makes me feel quite inept because things that people do when they're out-of-their-minds high is stuff that I can't even begin to make sense of when I'm stone cold sober.
(Cracked)

What I learned from Anna Wintour. Well, not me personally... more the universal 'I'.
(Huffington Post)

I'm taking in-depth notes about how to befriend my U.K. counterparts - it will certainly come in handy next spring! (Anyone in London want to be my friend?)
(The Frisky)

And just in time for New York Fashion Week ... How to sneak into a fashion show.
(Time Out New York)

This is one of my favorite sites - it has fabulous, high-quality scans of vintage magazines. Youthquakers loves to share the wealth, and don't bog down their images with pesky watermarks. Truly a delight to check out.
(Ciao Vogue)

This might be helpful for a lot of us out there: the Guide to Being a Groupie.
(Nerve)

I'm having a strange obsession with slang from decades past, so I'm loving this article of turn-of-the-century terms. Victorian words just roll off the quail-pipe!
(Mooky Chick)

The Lovin' Linkful

I'm such an internet vulture - I roam around on the web for hours and hours looking for ... well, I'm never actually sure what I'm looking for. As a result of my dedicated "research," I come across websites, articles, links galore that I usually just bookmark and go back and creep on at a later date. Well, in an effort to be less shady, I decided to share the e-wealth that I've garnered. Hopefully this can be a weekly thing, but here is "The Lovin' Linkful." And yes, I am ripping off the Lovin' Spoonful - because I am that pop culturally relevant.

Check out this funny website about the most bangable dudes throughout history, complete with mathematical reasoning (PIE CHARTS!) behind their hotness - the website's creator is obviously a girl after my own heart. (Bangable Dudes in History)

I already am in love with the Christian Lacroix-inspired reimagining of Sleeping Beauty. Buy this book and then squee about all the future fashion fairy tales that Camilla Morton is writing. (Harper Collins)

As part of her tour de force attempt to make herself seem more down-to-earth, Gwyneth Paltrow revealed that she buys a lot her of beauty products at pharmacies. Exclusive Parisian pharmacies stocked with expensive oils, naturally. What, did you think homegirl shopped at CVS? (Goop)

Jenna Lyons. Love her. Want to be her. Get to meet her on Tuesday at the FABB Conference. Eeek! (Huffington Post)

Check out the "Mark by Mark Zuckerberg" collection. Make your parents feel super groovy and in-the-know and send it to them. But make sure they realize it's a joke. (Mark by Mark Zuckerberg)

Apparently, I'm on a dead person kick today, because I am really diggin' this tumblr. (letters to dead people)

"Supermarket?! I don't go to the supermarket! I'd rather buy clothes." Reason #362 why Anna Dello Russo and I are soulmates. (Vogue UK)

Seven easy resolutions that you can actually keep. No excuses. (Glamour)

Excuse the fact that I never thought Jane Eyre was the best book ever. If I was Jane, I would never have stuck with Rochester and his one-armed douchebaggery. (The Hairpin)

Do yourself a favor and become as obsessed with this website (and its super lovely creator, Michelle) as I am. (Beauty Editor)

It's no secret my desire to live inside of a Sofia Coppola movie. Until that time comes, Meaghan Antoinette's très chic tumblr gets me through. (Let Them Eat Cake)

My good friend Emilie sent this to me - fill out your very own Proust Questionnaire and see which famous figures from years past share your same fears and vices. (Vanity Fair)

Okay - what do you guys think? Hope you enjoyed it / did not already know all of these sites before.

A million x's and o's,
Alexis
